20.4MP 4/3” Live MOS sensor and TruePic IX Image Processor The OM-5 is centred around a high-resolution 20.4MP 4/3” Live MOS sensor and TruePic IX image processor that combine to deliver highly detailed stills and 4K video while keeping noise to a minimum.
It is also quick thanks to the sensor and processor combination, enabling continuous shooting rates of up to 10 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps in electronic shutter mode.
4K Video Recording and Vertical Video Recording The OM-5 supports recording 4K 30p movies and Full HD 1080p and HD 720p recordings for file size versatility, perfect for recording stories that a single frame can’t capture.
Vertical video recording is now possible for easy formatting on social media platforms.
The built-in stereo microphone is excellent for easy audio recording, but a 3.5 mm mini-jack is available for attaching an external microphone for the best audio quality.
Advanced Autofocus System Combining 121 cross-type phase-detection and 121 contrast-detection AF points delivers quick and accurate focusing in mixed lighting conditions.
The Focus area is adjustable, selecting between single-area, 5-area, 9-area, and 25-area or custom to suit the subject’s size and accommodate the shooting distance.
Manual focusing is supported with an enlarged focusing area, focus peaking and a focus indicator.
5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilisation The in-body sensor-shift 5-axis image stabilisation in the OM-5 effectively minimises the appearance of camera shake typically associated with using telephoto lenses, shooting at slower shutter speeds, and macro photography.
Providing up to 6.5 stops of compensation and up to 7.5 stops when paired with compatible Sync-IS lenses, this advanced stabilisation system benefits both stills and hand-held video recording to capture smooth footage on the go effortlessly.
Computational Photography Shooting Modes Handheld Hi-Res Shot — Allows photographers to create stunning 50MP high-resolution shots in areas where tripods can’t be used.
The OM-5 utilises the advanced image stabilisation system to shoot a series of 8 sequentially recorded frames and composite them into a single image with greater detail.
Tripod High Res Shot employs the same mechanism where the sensor moves slightly between shots to gather more information than in a single exposure to produce an 80MP composite image.
This feature can also be configured in both modes to record 25MP images for file size flexibility.
Live ND 16 — For last-minute inspiration when you don’t have time to add an ND filter, the OM-5 supports up to ND16 (4-stop).
This mode is perfect for achieving minimum depth of field or capturing motion blur by simulating the effect of a light-reducing neutral density filter.
Live Composite — Perfect for star trails, light painting and other moving light scenes, this long exposure mode works by only recording newly detected light sources over a period of time, allowing you to gradually build up an exposure without overexposing key elements within the frame.
With live view monitoring, you can watch the image as it develops.
Focus Stacking — When paired with compatible lenses, this mode can be selected to record 8 sequential frames at different focus points within the scene and then composite them into a single image.
Useful for maximising depth of field in a wide range of applications, from detailed close-up photos to capturing grand vistas.
